Information
Colinton Lawn Tennis Club is one of the largest tennis clubs in Edinburgh, with a total membership of 294 (consisting of 193 seniors and 101 juniors). A professional coach is attached to the club.
Playing Facilities
The club has six all-weather courts consisting
of sand-filled synthetic grass. The courts are available for play throughout the
year. Three of the courts are floodlit allowing play to continue until 10.00
p.m. outside the summer months.
Clubhouse
A new and modern clubhouse was built in 1991, replacing
the original one. It is equipped with large changing rooms, showers, a
well-maintained kitchen and a social area. There is a viewing platform at the
front of the clubhouse.
Practise Wall
A practise wall was built in 1991 next to the
clubhouse to allow players to warm up and practise their shot-making skills.
Upkeep of the Club
The club employs a part-time groundsman, who
also cleans the clubhouse. Members are therefore not asked to perform these
additional tasks, although the costs involved need to be covered by the
subscriptions.
Development plan
The club runs a development plan to keep its
facilities up to date, and maintains a 'sinking fund' for financing future projects.
In 2002 Courts 1 to 3, the floodlighting on these courts,
and the fencing surrounding all six courts were replaced and upgraded. An
interest-free loan secured from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) helped pay for
these improvements. A recent major capital cost was the 'rejuvenation' of the playing surface on Courts 4 to 6 in 2005. This should extend the life of these courts by about another 6 years.
