Social Tennis

Seniors
The strength of Colinton Lawn Tennis Club is its 'social tennis' for competent tennis players. Senior members can turn up at any of the following times throughout the year and join in the sociable 'doubles play':
Saturdays - 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm (the main playing day)
Wednesdays - 6.30 p.m to 9.00 pm
Ladies night - Thursdays at 6.30 pm between April 20th and June 29th (or the corresponding Tuesday if the Ladies First Team have a home match on the Thursday). This evening has been arranged for competitive tennis for Ladies of all standards, instead of running a Ladies Second Team.

Members arrange amongst themselves to play at other times. None of the courts is bookable, so play is on a rotational basis if others are waiting. In such circumstances, members should play one short set (i.e. maximum of 10 games plus one short tie break) and doubles play is preferred over singles play. In addition, senior players must respect the courts and times made available for junior players as outlined below. In addition, senior players must take their turn with junior players, except on Saturday afternoons when senior players have preference.

Juniors
Juniors may not play on a Saturday afternoon between 1.30 pm and 4.00 pm in April, May and June. During the rest of the year, junior members may play on a Saturday afternoon between 1.30 pm and 4.00 pm if a court is available. Juniors may play at any other times, except during the match season (mid-April to end of June) when three courts are required for senior matches. One short set (i.e. a maximum of 10 games plus a short tie-break) should be played if others are waiting and, in such circumstances, doubles play should be given preference over singles play.

Club Social Programme and Special Events
Saturday April 26th – Wimbledon Draw at 2 pm, Susie Mair - honorary member and ex Wimbledon player as well as ex Colinton champion.
Saturday April 26th – Senior American Tournament at 2 pm, followed immediately by cheese and wine in the clubhouse. New members are especially welcome to attend so that they can meet the ‘regular members’ of the club.
Sunday April 27th– ‘Play Tennis’ open day. Open to non-members and families to sample the delights of playing tennis, with the club coach and senior members of the club present to share the experience. Starts at 2.00 pm and lasts all day until 4.00 pm.
Sunday May 18th – Road to Wimbledon under-14 junior tournament.
Saturday June 21th – Senior American Tournament followed by mid-summer barbecue.
Sunday June 22nd – Junior American Tournament followed by mid-summer barbecue.
Monday July 14th-  – Friday 18th - Junior Summer Camp.
Sunday September 7th – Junior Tournament.
Friday October 3rd – Sunday 5th - Finals weekend for Senior Tournament.
Saturday October 11th – Quiz Night and presentation of senior tournament trophies.  Starts at 7.30pm.  The quiz night is always a popular social evening with friendly rivalry between randomly drawn teams.
